ASU Art Museum
Established in 1950, ASU Art Museum is recognized as one of the Southwest's most significant contemporary art institutions. In addition to serving students and scholars, ASU Art Museum is a cultural hub for the Phoenix Metropolitan area. Through several achievements, the museum also gained international attention. It represented the United States at the 1995 Venice Biennial with the exhibition Bill Viola: Buried Secrets; in 1998, it curated Contemporary Art from Cuba: Irony and Survival on the Utopian Island; and in 2002, it opened the ASU Art Museum Ceramics Research Center. ASU Art Museum is located in Antoine Predock's architecturally celebrated structure, the Nelson Fine Arts Center and in the Ceramics Research Center, at Tempe Center.
As a university institution, ASU Art Museum has the freedom as well as a mandate to explore new directions and to seek out artists who are often under-recognized. The exhibitions examine art as a contemporary phenomenon that asks questions about our time. Each exhibition is designed to enlighten and challenge as well as to entertain. ASU Art Museum also presents an annual short film and video festival each April that has built a reputation for premiering the work of young talent.-
