Dylan Anderson (Alex Frost) is a normal teenager who, like many high-school seniors, feels forced to deal with the pressures involved with life after high school. 'The Standard' is an unusually raw and accurate look at the many trials of adolescence, from sex to drugs, to fitting in and figuring out one's life. See the trailer at http://www.thestandardmovie.com/_index.html.

Seeing Closer leaves you feeling like you’ve just been punched in the stomach, but Chyro Arts Venue has succeeded in creating a production that makes you want to go back for more, no matter how gun-wrenching. Fans of the movie will not be disappointed with the play, since the small, sparse set puts more focus on the intense story and dialogue. Chyro’s set is amazing. The small stage is deftly transformed into a variety of settings, from an aquarium to a strip club to a doctor’s office to an art gallery, with the help of a few multi-use props and dynamic video displays. Because of the minimalist set, the actors had a huge responsibility in conveying the emotion of the script, and all four do a dynamite job. It’s hard not to compare the cast members and their mannerisms to those found in the movie version, but thankfully this cast succeeds at interpreting the characters in their own way. Director Tom Leveen gained Chyro Arts notoriety as a place where theater is taken seriously. Collapse

ChyroArts is performing a Closer the way it should be seen. Not on a big screen but in an intensely intimate setting. This is a telling work that should appeal to anyone who is in love, out of love, or just contemplating whether or not the fantastic appeal of a threesome is worth the damage it would most definitely cause. Surely there are enough people in Phoenix like that to give this show the full houses it deserves. If nothing else Closer will teach you that love is fierce and must be brutally honest to survive. It will also warn you that if you ever find yourself asking someone you love if someone else they slept with was better than you…you wont be happy with the answer whatever it happens to be. Collapse

First of all, love the couches. Second of all, I realized this play is more about finding the humor of life rather than dwelling on the complexities of it. Bravo on getting a great cast. Michael was pretty believeable and I'm glad you found yourself a woman with some comic timing. This play wouldn't have worked without it. Hilarious. Collapse

This is a darling play, very well executed with a lovely cast. Michael Peck is outstanding as Don, with Emily Rubin and the rest of the cast holding their own equally as well. This is not one of my favorite plays I have to admit, but this production is truly enjoyable. Delightful, heartfelt, completely joyous. I am anxious to see what comes next from this company and hope others get to see and be a part of what's going on at Chyro. Big thumbs up. Collapse

If you don't go see this show, you will be missing out on some of the very best acting to grace the stages of valley. Michael Peck is phenominal as the blind young man who is trying to gain his independence, and Janis Webb, as his mother, is terrific. Also stellar is Emily Rubin as the "girl next door." Collapse
