Add Review/CommentNew author Leighton Gage has lived all over the world - Australia, Europe, South America, plus traveled widely in Asia and Africa. He has had a background in the literary arts for years as a copywriter, an advertising creative director, a magazine editor, and a writer/producer/director of documentary films and industrial videos. Now a part-time Brazilian resident, Gage, is taking his experiences and turning them into a new craft-mystery writing. He has fashioned Mario Silva, the chief inspector for criminal matters of the federal police of Brazil. In his first Mario Silva novel, Blood of the Wicked, Gage begins the story in the remote Brazilian town of Cascatas do Pontal, where landless peasants are confronting the owners of vast estates. The bishop arrives by helicopter to consecrate a new church and is assassinated. Silva is dispatched to the interior to find the killer. Gage brings a lot to the table with his experiences in foreign countries. He visited Spain in the time of Franco, Portugal in the time of Salazar, South Africa in the time of apartheid, Chile in the time of Pinochet, Argentina in the time of the junta, and Prague, East Germany and Yugoslavia under the Communist yoke. He is fluent in three languages and has a good working knowledge of three more. During his advertising career, he won over 130 awards for creative excellence. He served as a jury member in all of the world's major advertising film festivals. He has been a featured speaker in a variety of locations, including Helsinki, Hong Kong and Bombay. Blood of the Wicked will be available for purchase at the program.
