Seventy-Six Trombones lead the big parade to our Mainstage with this popular family musical by Meredith Willson about a fast-talking salesman named Harold Hill, who cons the good people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band he never plans to organize. But this phony peddler sings a different tune when he falls for Marian, the town librarian. Instead of skipping town before the instruments arrive, Harold's love for Marian convinces him to stay and face the music. Willson delivers a dynamite score of rousing marches, barbershop quartets and sentimental ballads with popular songs like Ya Got Trouble, Lida Rose and Till There Was You. Terry Helland directs. Suitable for all ages.

I think it is a show for the more "mature" audience but that said I think it can be enjoyed by all ages. Almost every song is recognizable and several people in the audience were singing along! The actor who plays the main character, Harold Hill, is perfect for the role. There are a couple of moments that let it down. The gossipy town women I found very irritating and their song wasn't staged as well as it might. "Shipoopi" was fun and of course "Seventy Six Trombones" is a classic. It was a good evenings entertainment and I would recommend this show highly. Collapse
