Opening the 2007-2008 Season will be Urinetown the Musical with music and lyrics by Mark Hollmann, book and lyrics by Greg Kotis, and directed by Mark S. P. Turvin. Welcome to Urinetown, the Musical, not the place. What is Urinetown? We know it sounds disgusting! Why would anyone want to see a show called Urinetown? We understand...but we fell in love with this show, and we think you will too. It's about a terrible water shortage, the government outlawing the use of private toilets to conserve water, and the corruption of the Urine Good Company. It's the classic tale of the poor oppressed by the rich. Urinetown the Musical is a self-aware, hip, ironic and absolutely earnest celebration of all the awkward balances that make America great. This Tony award-winning satirical comedy breaks all the rules of the standard Broadway musical. Urinetown will be Tempe Little Theatre's first production at the new Tempe Center for the Arts.

I was really looking forward to seeing this production at the lovely new venue in Tempe (especially after seeing last season's show "5 Women Wearing the Same Dress" there) But my friends and I were really disappointed in this show. First of all, it is really dated (not the actors fault,of course) but I don't know why they would chose this show. Secondly, the actors were really struggling with lines and it showed. The lady in the third act was pretty funny, but the other two (especially the young girl) were not so great. The guy, who played in all three scenes was OK, but not as funny as he should have been. He got better as the show went on. Again, just not up to par for a good theater company. Collapse

Great acting ensemble! Set and costumes are perfect. Each actress takes her turn and they perform wonderfully. Angela steals the show with the many facets of her character portrayal. You are with her all the way.Grab your cheeto-colored shoes and see this one. Just be prepared- these women are salty!(except for one!) Bring the men- they will love the insight!Kudos to TLT and to the director of this tight, funny, wonderful night of theatre. Class Act. Collapse

Funny and sad, touching and hilarious--a great combination! Not for the faint-of-heart when it comes to drugs, sex, or blue language, but the acting and script are great.

I saw this on saturday night and fell in love with this show. The women in this show are so great and totally believable. Normally in a show with 5 women you would expect one to stand out over the others. With this show every woman in the cast is phenomenal. A very talented cast. My only dissapointment is that its only two weekends and I wont get a chance to see it again. Collapse

I drove across town on a very hot night. Too bad the action inside wasn't any better than luke warm. This is totally amateurish production. It resembled an overcrowded high school play. The director should have removed half the players off the stage during most of the solo numbers. With bad lighting and awful sound system, everything was a total distraction. Something I never do: I left at intermission. Don't even give them that time. Collapse
