Review/Comment
Jekyll and Hyde is a true musical theatre spectacle, attracting legions of loyal fans even before the smash-hit began on Broadway. Based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story of the same name, the musical exposes a brilliant doctor whose experiments with human personality create a murderous counterpart.

This production was by far the best thing I've seen in the valley in years! However, it was not the leads who impressed me the most. It was the rousing performances by Brad as General Lord Glossop and Dennis as The Right Honorable Sir Archibald Proops Q.C. These two shone throughout the entire show leaving a strong impression on me. The voices, the acting, the charisma was brilliant. Bravo gentlemen, Bravo! You're on your way to Broadway! Collapse

I can't believe how much money I spent to see this production. I thought the whole thing was extremely horrible. The only shinging lights in the production were Stride and Emma. I think that they cast the completely wrong person as Lucy. An opera trained soprano should not be singing a role where a powerhouse belter mezzo soprano is needed. The sets and costumes were amazing. I definitely would not suggest seeing this production for the amount that they charge per ticket. It is not worth it. Collapse

It was generally good but was very disappointed with the two leads. Granted, I saw the understudy for Jekyll, who sung well, but I didn't believe a single emotion he was trying to portray, spoke or sung. The female lead acted well and gave a good performance as well as sang beautifully, but she needed to belt her songs, not lightly sing them like a soprano. Very poor direction as well. The director should have told the female lead that if she is going to use such a thick cockney accent, it will carry at least in part, into her singing voice, not just magically disappear so she sounds American. I was disappointed with the choices for the leads and the direction, but the lighting, ensemble, set and orchestra were great. Maybe I'll go back and see if the other Jekyll is any better...I hope so. Collapse

Well, I have to say I was extremely disappointed, being such a fan of this show. The lighting and set looked great, the costuming was wonderful, and the orchestra sounded great, as was the ensemble, but the two leads were seriously miscast... Perhaps I came on the wrong day. I did see the Jekyll/Hyde understudy after all, and although he sang beautifully, I didn't believe his performance for one second. The Lucy had a role that needs a powerful belt and chest voice throughout. Not a light soprano. On the songs requiring a light voice she sounded beautiful, but in this production they were few and far between. The directing for this show was off as well, Lucy was (I assume) instructed to use an extremely thick accent for her role, but then dropped it completely without a trace when she sang. Emma fared better and sang beautifully, and the roles of Simon and John were handled supurbly. I may see the other twoleads Collapse

Jekyll and Hyde had some of the best singing, high energy. The lead Jekyll did a great job changing from Jekyll to Hyde. Lucy had a fabulous voice! The show is well worth seeing! The only disappointing part of the whole evening was the audience, they didn't show the cast the appreciation they deserved. Someone needed to breath some life in the audience! Collapse
