Olen Perkins paints familiar subjects within walking or hiking distance of his studio in Coolidge. Raised in the Blackwater Community of the Gila River Indian Community south of Phoenix, Perkins says, 'The southwest of my memory is not the grand vistas and canyons that one associates with Arizona, but rather the agricultural fields, distant mountains, dusty roads, railroads and structures of the small towns and rural desert of central Arizona.'
