She’s an inspiration to many and has created a sensation wherever she’s performed. Movies have been made about her proving she’s more than just the sum of her parts. She’s both a phenomenal artist and a living embodiment of her art. She’s transgendered performance artist and rock goddess. Perhaps best known as the lead vocalist for the dark glam rock band, All The Pretty Horses (ATPH), Venus is also an accomplished painter and filmmaker, whose work has been seen from San Francisco to Paris. On March 3, during the First Friday Artwalk, Venus will be exhibiting her work in the main gallery, while performing selections from her latest solo work, on stage. Later in the evening, she will be joined by local tranny punk band, The Insignificant Others, to perform select hits from All The Pretty Horses. As usual, the First Friday event is absolutely free to any and all who walk through our doors. Then, on Saturday, March 4, beginning at 6:00pm, Venus will be joined by her long-time life partner, accomplished poet and novelist Lynette Grandell, for a meet and greet, followed by an unparalleled performance of words and music. At 8:00pm, a screening of the critically-acclaimed documentary Venus Of Mars, by Emily Goldberg, will be unspooled, followed by a Q&A session facilitated by Dr. Paul Tibbles, Professor of Communications and Gender Studies at ASU. Find out for yourself why Playboy Magazine calls her “genuinely talented,” the Village Voice proclaimed of ATPH “a fine hard rock band that sounds like Cream fronted by Bowie when he still sang fruity” and Riffs Magazine crowed, “this girl has balls and s/he knows how to use them!”
