    The heroine of Astrid Lindgren's series of children's classics turns a small village upside-down while escaping the clutches of the Child Welfare Board, thwarting pickpockets, and bringing adventure into the lives of the kids next door; all the time clinging to the belief that her pirate father will soon return from the high seas.
