Oh, what a tangled web is woven in Babes In Toyland, a holiday adventure stuffed full of romance, sorcery, and scheming characters of all shapes and sizes. A unique interactive retelling of the classic operetta will be presented by Greasepaint Scottsdale Youtheatre. Director Ed Como, Musical Director Alberto Allende, and Choreographer Sarah Kukes round out the production team. The plotline is a decadent vaudevillian path through Mother Goose Land, where residents are in distress. The Widow Piper's daughter and son, Mary and Tom, are in love with old miser Barnaby's nephew and niece, Alan and Jane (respectively). Jealous of his nephew, Barnaby announces that Alan and Jane have been lost at sea and that Contrary Mary will become his wife. Tom and Mary soon escape to Toyland, where they believe Alan and Jane have been sent by their evil uncle at the hands of his buffoonish helpers, Gonzorgo and Roderigo. Como spins a web of interaction that audience members can join into as Tom (cheer!) tries to outdo the villainous Barnaby (boo! hiss!) and the Master Toymaker's troupes of robotic animatrons are turned upon himself. Enjoy the nonstop action as Alan and Jane make their way through the ominous spider forest, and laugh and jeer at Barnaby as he tries to frame Alan and force Mary to be his wife.
