Michael Whittlesea is an accomplished visual artist who approaches the traditional subject matter of flowers and often times their containers in a unique manner. Unlike many floral paintings that seem overworked and heavy-handed, Michael Whittlesea's canvases communicate the delicate characteristics of flowers and the fresh breaths of air that seem to resonate into the space surrounding them by letting the paint take over. To Michael Whittlesea, risk taking is important and accidents are essential elements within his work. It is this delicate primitivism, this light hearted spontaneity that makes Michael Whittlesea's paintings so interesting to collectors. Neon signs that have withstood the odds of the wrecking ball, those that have remained persistent and have stood strong through the emergence of the corporate age are what Terry Thompson chooses as his subject matter. Not only does Terry Thompson try to depict the forgotten history of a more innocent Americana, but more importantly, the sheer beauty of the lines and textures and the mechanics that have come together making these signs unique pieces of art.
